Why I always see 22:22

You glance at your phone and it says 22:22. Again. You tell yourself it can't be a coincidence.

You check the time more often than you think, mostly at night when the house goes quiet. The 22:07 and the 23:41 slip off your eye at once. The 22:22 sticks, and something small happens, a pinch, almost a smile. I get it. A number repeating itself is kind of lovely.

And the moment is never quite random. You look at the time when a thought is already going round: a person, a decision, a question you haven't said to anyone. The hour lands right on it, and for one second it feels like an answer. At night, that's rare, feeling answered. What it may cost you is asking the question to a clock face instead of to someone.

At night, it's rare to feel like someone answered you.

I was wondering…

What answer are you afraid of, on the nights you ask the question to a screen instead of a person?
