Why I keep seeing 00:00
You reach for your phone in the dark to check the time, and it says 00:00. Again.
That night you had already looked five or six times. 11:12, 11:40, 11:58. None of them stay. 00:00 does. It tightens your chest a little, and I get why it stops you.
Midnight is the line where the day is over, for good. If you're still awake at that point, you're probably going over the tally: the message left unanswered, the thing put off, what you were going to do "tomorrow" that has turned into today. The round number brings it all back at once.
It isn't the clock coming back. It's the end of your day you run into, and you put the phone down with the list still in your head.
Midnight is the line where the day is over for good.
I was wondering…
What would still be good about you, on a day you got none of it done?
