Why do I always end up with men who keep me waiting
Your phone is face down on the table and you're pretending you're not waiting. He said he'd tell you tomorrow.
Then he writes. Three lines, hardly anything, and something in your chest lets go: there he is. You tell yourself that's what falling for someone feels like.
It makes my heart squeeze a little, because it looks so much like joy. But you waited, you counted the hours, and when the waiting stops, your body breathes out.
So when someone answers right away, says what he thinks, shows up when he said he would, there's no waiting to end. Nothing loosens, and it feels flat, almost too easy.
What if what you call the spark is sometimes just the end of missing him? It costs whole evenings spent watching a screen for three lines.
What you call the spark is sometimes just the end of missing him.
I was wondering…
Who would you be if nobody kept you waiting?
