Why I snap over small things

A glass left on the counter, and your voice comes out louder than you meant. You hear it leave, and you don't know where it came from.

It isn't the glass. It's the glass, plus the drawer left half open, plus the question asked twice, and suddenly your jaw is tight and a sharp sentence is already out.

Then the shame comes fast: "all that over a glass." It tugs at me a little, that sentence you say to yourself in the kitchen, with no one there to hear it.

Often there is something bigger that found nowhere to land: a day swallowed without a word, something you kept to yourself. The small things are within reach, so they end up carrying everything.

It costs you: the person in front of you doesn't understand, neither do you, and the real thing stays there, untouched, under the glass.

The small things are within reach, so they end up carrying everything.

I was wondering…

What did you keep to yourself today, because it didn't feel big enough to be worth saying out loud?
